Always wanted to play the guitar but never really managed to master it? Your favorite bedroom pastime has a festival designed around it in Finland.
A festival in Finland gives you a chance to rock out your most glorious guitar moments that you most definitely must have pictured in your head. Held in August each year since 1996, The Air Guitar World Championships allows rock music faithful to relive the euphoria of being the lead guitarist in front of a packed audience.
All you have to do to enter this fantastic competition is submit a one-minute (maximum) high quality music clip of the song you wish to perform along with an entry form that can be found on the official site. You can either edit the clip yourself or send a copy of your song with the preferred starting point.
Started back in 1996 in Oulu, Finland as part of the Oulo Music Video Festival, the purpose of the Air Guitar World Championships is to promote world peace. According to the promoters:
“Wars end, climate change stops and all bad things disappear, if all the people in the world played the Air Guitar.” This goes to explain the mantra for the festival—”Make Air not War.”
Here’s a short clip of what went down in last year’s edition:
