There was nothing pretty about the venue after the event.
The Full Moon Party on the island of Ko Pha Ngan, Thailand is an immensely popular tourist destination. There are parties held every full moon at beaches all over Thailand, but the one at Ko Pha Ngan is the biggest. The legendary all-night beach party used to be an intimate affair back in the 80s, but has expanded into a huge commercial festival that attracts people from all over the world. It’s known for its cheap alcohol buckets, and also the amount of plastic waste it produces.
The picture taken in the aftermath reveals just how bad it gets, and how ravers leave the beach after the night is done. The rubbish was apparently left for the locals to clean up. The picture has gone viral on Facebook, shared by ‘Ocean Defender’ with the following message:
“This is the aftermath of a full moon party in Thailand… For the love of POSEIDON how can you celebrate the moon and trash the ocean?
The saddest part about this picture is the fact that the great majority of the people attending these types of “parties” are people from developed countries, tourists with out consciousness.
Don’t be a part of the problem, be a part of the solution. “
